The Story Behind the Story

So it's been a couple weeks since Shadows of Fate released, and I am still pinching myself at all the kind words and support I've received.

Not many people know, but Shadows holds a very special place in my heart. Writing Shadows helped me struggle through a difficult time in my life. My son was born with a laundry list of health conditions.  For weeks after his birth, we sat by his bedside, terrified and exhausted, not knowing what was wrong with our child, or what the future would hold.  All we could do is watch, wait, and pray.

It was during those long hours at the hospital that I decided to start writing to help myself cope with my stress and kill time during those endless nights.  While my son slept, I would do my best to lose myself in my story for a few stolen moments.  I continued writing through the scary adventure of bringing our son home and having to learn how to place a feeding tube and care for him on our own, through sleepless night after sleepless night. And writing became pure escapism for me.  It allowed me to breath freely for a short period during the day.  As you've probably guessed, the result was Shadows

It took me a while to let go of Shadows and submit it to a publisher. I was scared because it was so different from anything I had written before. But I loved it, so I did. And the rest is history.  In a few months, my son will be two.  He's strong, capable, and the love of my life.  And Shadows is now out in the world, growing wings.

Later this year, Samhain Publishing will be releasing the second installment in the Shadow Born Series, Fading Light.  I am so excited to be able to share this series with you because it is so very special to me, I hope it will be to you as well.

Best,
Angela Dennis

IT'S ALIVE!!

Okay, so I'm a little slow on the take.  I apologize for the delayed post.  A book release is a lot more chaotic than I had anticipated (am in NO way complaining.  It's wonderful).

Shadows of Fate is ALIVE.  My baby is out there in the world, making its way as I sit back, bite my nails, eat lots of chocolate, and pray for the best.  I am so incredibly blessed to have supportive family and friends who have been cheering me on.  They are awesome, and I thank the good Lord for them.

The reception for Shadows has been fantastic.  You, my readers, have been incredibly supportive and encouraging.  It makes this girl feel like one lucky author.

So on to the skinny.  I'm in the middle of a blog tour with lots of stops and a pretty cool prize.  So stop by, check out the interviews, play list, etc.  and enter the contest.  Enjoy all the activities we have planned, you won't regret it.  I would love to meet you!

Hugs,
Angela Dennis

The Ticking Clock

Shadows of Fate releases in TWO days!  The mix of emotions I'm feeling about its release is both surprising and confusing.  I'm thrilled to be able to share Brenna and Gray's story with the world, yet, at the same, terrified that a part of me will be on display for all the world to see.

Writing is such a dichotomy. When I start a book, I gather my ides and step into my writing cave, away from family and friends, completely alone.  Once the first draft is finished, I might peek out just long enough to show it to my critique partners who help me find plot inconsistencies or just crap that needs to be cut, then I return to my cave and tear through my revisions. Weeks later, I venture out into the too bright sunlight, a final manuscript in my shaking hand, and pray all my hard-work has paid off.  That I have created something strange, unique and beautiful.  The book gets shipped off to my editor with bated breath, and I wait, consume a ton of chocolate, and wait some more.

When the news comes, if it's good, we start the editing process.  Again, I find myself back in the writing cave, exhausted, existing solely on caffeine, but exhilarated all the same.  I'm a weirdo when it comes to revisions and editing.  There's something about refining and crafting the final version of the book that give me a thrill, either that, or I'm a glutton for punishment.  Who knows.

Up until this point, the book has been a labor of love between me, my critique partners, and, of course, my editor.  Then, like a child, you have to give it wings, send it out into the world, and hope for the best. And that's where I am at with Shadows.  So Tuesday, I'm going to close my eyes and hope for the best, that you love Shadows as much as I do.  And that you find a connection with Brenna and Gray.

So come help me celebrate Shadows of Fate on April 8, 2014 by taking part in my release day romp.  I will be giving away some swag as well as a copy of Shadows. Then, starting April 9, 2014 I will be going on a virtual book tour and would love to have you along.  I promise it will be a lot of fun and there will be some fantastic giveaways along the way!  Happy Reading!

Hugs,
Angela
